Chinese activist, who fled China to avoid arrest, gets asylum in Canada

Chinese political activist Chen Siming, who had been stranded at Taiwan airport to avoid arrest by Beijing, has been granted asylum in Canada. Siming fled his country after receiving a call from Chinese authorities for a "psychiatric evaluation" and fearing for his safety. He had been under surveillance for discussing the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre on social media. Siming thanked human rights groups, Taiwan, Canada, and the UN refugee agency for their assistance.
